Résumé

The Convergence of Nature and Architecture

In an era of disposable decor, the Walnutry Kurumi Collection stands as a testament to permanence. "Kurumi" (くるみ)—the Japanese word for walnut—encapsulates our philosophy: a reverence for the material itself. This is not merely a dining table; it is a living artifact of the American hardwood forest, refined through precision engineering to become the beating heart of your home.

Uncompromising Materiality: The Solid Walnut Difference

While competitors rely on thin veneers glued over particleboard to mimic luxury, we believe in the authentic weight and warmth of solid timber. The Kurumi table is constructed entirely from solid North American Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra), sourced responsibly from the temperate forests of the Midwest. We select only the finest planks, prized for their rich, chocolate-brown heartwood and the occasional streak of lighter sapwood that highlights the tree’s life history.

Engineering the Impossible: The Radial Match

The crowning achievement of the Kurumi table is its radial match tabletop (often referred to as a starburst or pie match). Historically, this pattern was reserved for veneers due to the complex physics of wood movement—solid wood expands and contracts with humidity, usually causing radial patterns to crack. Walnutry has solved this challenge. Our artisans utilize a proprietary stress-relief joinery system and a segmented rim construction.

A Finish That Lives With You

We reject plastic-like lacquers that seal the wood behind a barrier. The Kurumi table is finished with a premium penetrating hardwax oil. This matte finish protects the wood from deep within while leaving the surface open to touch. It feels like wood, not plastic. Best of all, it is repairable. A scratch over the decades is not a tragedy but a memory, easily buffed out and re-oiled to restore the table’s original luster.

benefits.

FAS GRADE WOOD

Most companies settle for "No. 1 Common" grade. We start with FAS (Firsts and Seconds)—the highest NHLA grade—and then we filter again.

HEIRLOOM DURABILITY

High hardness and decay resistance. Daily scratches become memories of life, not damage.

WOOD WAX OIL

Unlike plastic lacquers, wax penetrates the wood. If you scratch it, you can simply rub in more wax to repair it instantly. It develops a rich patina over time.
