The Haven is a walnut platform bed with a headboard you can set at three heights. A 2.0 in (5 cm) ledge runs along its top. Your mattress goes straight onto solid pine slats.

Three heights, picked by your mattress

The headboard sets at 37.0, 38.2 or 39.4 in (94, 97 or 100 cm) to the top. Our factory suggests a setting by how thick your mattress is.

Use the low setting for a mattress 8.3 to 9.1 in (21 to 23 cm) thick. Use the middle one for 9.4 to 10.2 in (24 to 26 cm). Use the high one for 10.6 to 11.4 in (27 to 29 cm).

A thicker mattress gets a higher headboard, so a similar band of walnut shows above your pillows.

A ledge along the top

A 2.0 in (5 cm) ledge runs along the top of the headboard. It holds a phone, your glasses or a book within reach. Put a coaster under a water glass.

Below the ledge, the walnut panel is 19.3 in (49 cm) tall and reclined at 95°. We edge-join it from wide boards, matched by color and grain.

Under the mattress

The slats are solid pine, laid in sections across the frame. The mattress sits on them directly, so you don't need a box spring. It sits 1.4 in (3.5 cm) down inside the frame, which keeps it from shifting.

A solid-wood keel runs down the middle on legs with adjustable feet, for floors that aren't level. The King has two keels and the Queen has one. Felt strips sit where the frame meets its supports, to damp noise.

Room underneath, and for the wall

There's 7.1 in (18 cm) of clear space under the side rails, with no extra legs in the way. A robot vacuum fits under there.

At the back, the ledge sticks out. That leaves room for a baseboard, so the bed can sit right against the wall. The rails are 4.7 in (12 cm) tall, with rounded edges and corners.

Before you order

The three settings cover mattresses from 8.3 to 11.4 in (21 to 29 cm) thick. If yours is thinner or thicker, ask us before you order.

It's a long frame: 85.7 in (217.7 cm) from headboard to foot. The Queen is 63.5 in (161.4 cm) wide and the King 79.5 in (201.9 cm). Measure your room with that in mind.

Walnut, oil and grain

The frame is solid American black walnut, and every wooden part is solid wood. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut, built with mortise-and-tenon joinery. We kiln-dry the lumber to 8 to 10% moisture.

The finish is hardwax oil. It resists water but isn't waterproof, so wipe spills promptly. A new bed can smell a little when you unpack it; keep the room aired.

Knots, pale sapwood, mineral streaks and color shifts are part of black walnut, not defects.

Ordering the Haven

We make each Haven to order. Production takes 6 to 10 weeks, and delivery is about 10 to 18 weeks after you order.

Standard shipping is free across the contiguous United States, excluding remote areas. You have 90 days after receiving your order to request a return. Custom dimensions, custom finishes and special-order modifications are not eligible for return.
