The tulip, in walnut

Most pedestal tables of this shape are metal or lacquered composite; Orbit is solid American black walnut from the oval top down through the hourglass stem to the disc base. Grain runs through every part, and the whole piece is finished in a food-safe, VOC-free matte hard-wax oil.

Is the stem really wood?

Yes — the hourglass stem and disc base are shaped from solid American black walnut, not metal in disguise. You can read the grain running vertically up the column.

Is a single pedestal stable?

The disc base is wide relative to the top and the stem is thick where loads concentrate. For its 45 lb rating — lamp, books, water carafe — it stands without wobble; it is not a step stool, and no drink table is.

Does it work as a nightstand?

What is the lip like?
