The Helios walnut dining armchair has arms and a back made as one continuous piece. We steam-bend the back into an S-shape that wraps around you.
One curve from arm to arm
The arms and the back are one continuous piece. That gives you a long grip when you pull the chair out from the table.
Each rear leg is one length of wood that runs up into the back. The legs splay slightly outward.
Seat and leather
The seat is dished and made from wide boards, edge-joined with matched grain. A cream top-grain leather pad sits on top.
The seat is 20.1 in wide and 16.5 in deep (51 × 42 cm), at 17.7 in (45 cm) high.
Walnut, oil and edges
The chair is solid American black walnut, and every wooden part is solid wood. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut with mortise-and-tenon joinery. We kiln-dry the lumber to 8 to 10% moisture.
We finish it in hardwax oil, and the edges are rounded all around. The oil resists water but isn't waterproof. A slight smell on unpacking is normal; keep the room aired.
Knots and color shifts are part of black walnut, not defects.
Check your table first
The Helios is 21.5 in (54.5 cm) wide and 22.6 in (57.5 cm) deep, and it stands 31.1 in (79 cm) tall. We don't publish an arm height.
If the arms need to slide under your table, measure the space under the tabletop and ask us before you order.
For an armless chair with a top-grain leather seat, see the Oryn.
