The Heritage Tallboy is a walnut tallboy dresser with five graduated drawers. It's 29.5 in (75 cm) wide and 36.6 in (93 cm) high. The drawer boxes are dovetailed, and so are the top corners of the case.

Bigger drawers at the bottom

The fronts run 5.1, 5.9, 6.7, 7.5 and 7.5 in from top to bottom (13, 15, 17, 19 and 19 cm). Small things go in the top drawer. Bulky folds go in the bottom two.

We cut each drawer front from a single board, so there's no join from top to bottom. A finger groove cut into the front opens it. There are no knobs or handles.

Dovetails and wooden runners

Each drawer box is dovetailed at the corners. The drawers slide on solid-wood runners. Each drawer is solid wood.

The front edges of the case are cut at 45°, and the inside corners are rounded.

No legs, a recessed base

It stands on a recessed base, 2.0 in (5 cm) high, with no legs. There's no gap underneath to clean.

What to check before you order

It comes in one size and one finish. At 29.5 in (75 cm) wide, it suits a short wall better than a long one.

Don't cover the top with film or a sheet of glass. The wood needs to breathe.

Walnut, oil and care

Every wooden part of this 5-drawer dresser is solid wood. The case, back panel and drawers are solid American black walnut.

The top is made from wide boards, edge-joined and matched for color and grain. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut, finished in hardwax oil.

Dust the wood with a soft dry cloth, and wipe spills promptly: the oil resists water but isn't waterproof.

When the wood looks dry, refresh it with a hardwax-oil maintenance product. There may be a slight smell when you unpack it. Keep the room ventilated.

Knots, sapwood edges and mineral streaks are natural walnut, not defects.
