The cantilever that lets Meridian lean over your seat is carried by reinforced mortise-and-tenon joinery — the same wood-into-wood work as our dining tables, scaled down. The column wears hand-cut fluting; the top is solid American black walnut with rounded edges, 18.1" × 11.8".

Where it earns its keep

The foot needs 1.5" of clearance to slide under a sofa or bed, floating the top over your lap at 23.6". Laptop, ramen, nightcap, phone-and-glasses at the bedside — it is the just-enough surface that ends cushion-balancing, in rooms where a full side table won't fit.

Honest limits

Rated to 35 lb — generous for its size, correct for its use. The matte hardwax oil is water-resistant and repairs locally; re-oil once a year and it stays new.

Is it big enough for a laptop?

Yes — the 18.1" × 11.8" top takes a 16" laptop with mouse room to one side, or dinner-for-one with a glass. It is deliberately compact; if you want lamp-and-books acreage, choose a full side table instead.

How does a small table stay rigid under a cantilever?

The joint between column and foot is reinforced mortise-and-tenon — wood locked into wood at the highest-stress point. It is why the table survives daily leaning that works bracket-built C-tables loose.

Will it fit under my sofa?
