The Oryn is an arch back dining chair: one curve of solid walnut rises behind you and runs down into the rear legs. You sit on a cream top-grain leather cushion.
One arch, back and legs together
The back is a single arch. It flows down into the rear legs, so back and legs form one structure. We join the back with mortise-and-tenon joinery.
The arch curves around you and follows the line of your back. Its edges are rounded all the way around.
The seat
The cushion is cream genuine top-grain leather over high-resilience foam. The seat is 19.1 in wide and 19.5 in deep (48.5 × 49.5 cm), and it's dished.
Under the cushion, the seat base is solid wood.
Before you order
We don't publish a seat height for the Oryn. If seat height decides it for you, ask us first.
It's 23.2 in (59 cm) deep overall, so leave room behind it at the table. It's 19.3 in (49 cm) wide and 33.5 in (85 cm) tall.
Walnut and its finish
The frame is solid American black walnut, and every wooden part is solid wood. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut, kiln-dried to 8 to 10% moisture.
We finish it in hardwax oil. It resists water but isn't waterproof, so wipe spills promptly. A slight smell when you unpack it is normal; keep the room aired.
Knots, color shifts and mineral streaks are part of black walnut, not defects.
