Four turned posts and an arched toile headboard make the Savannah a walnut four-poster bed. The print shows elephants, zebras and trees, drawn in grey on cream.

The toile, up close

Toile is a print of fine line drawings, usually country scenes. Ours shows elephants, zebras and trees in grey line on cream.

The fabric wraps the arched panel front and back, over high-density foam.

Short posts or tall

Pick short or tall posts when you order. Both are turned walnut, with finials you can take off. The posts detach too, which makes moving house easier.

Keeping the fabric clean

The headboard panel unscrews from the back, so you can take it off to clean or replace it. Vacuum off dust and spot-clean with a fabric cleaner. Don't scrub hard, and keep it out of long direct sun.

Pine slats on a double rail

Solid pine slats rest on a double-rail support, and your mattress sits on them directly. No box spring needed.

Stainless-steel bolts join the frame, with wool-felt strips at the joints to damp noise. There's 7.1 in (18 cm) clear underneath for storage boxes or a robot vacuum.

What we can't tell you yet

We don't have confirmed heights for the short and tall posts. If your ceiling is low, ask us before you choose.

It arrives in parts for assembly. A fabric headboard also needs more care than a wooden one.

Walnut, and the smell of new oil

The posts and frame are solid American black walnut, and every wooden part is solid wood. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut with mortise-and-tenon joinery, finished in hardwax oil.

A slight smell on unpacking is normal, and airing the room for 3 to 7 days lets it clear. Knots and color shifts are part of black walnut, not defects.
