At 12.6" tall, Suiseki sits a full hand's width below the standard coffee table. That is deliberate: it matches floor cushions, futons, and low lounge sofas, and it keeps sightlines across a small room completely open. If your sofa seat is 18" or higher, choose one of our 16"-class tables instead — this one is for rooms that live low.

Joinery you can point to

The legs pass through a horizontal stretcher and are locked with visible wooden pegs — through-tenon work in solid American black walnut. No brackets, no wobble developing at year three; the structure is the decoration.

A pebble, not a slab

The asymmetric oval top is 1.2" thick with a soft beveled edge — organic from every angle, cornerless for shins and crawling kids. The finish is a zero-VOC, food-safe matte hard-wax oil that spot-repairs in minutes.

Why is it so low?

12.6" is floor-culture height — right for zabuton cushions, futon lounging, and sofas with seats around 14–16". It also keeps the middle of a small room visually open. For standard 17–18" sofas we would honestly point you to our 16"-class tables.

What keeps it from wobbling?

The legs are through-tenoned into a stretcher and pinned with wooden pegs — wood locked through wood. It is the joint traditional low tables have used for centuries, and you can see every part of it doing its work.

Is it safe for a crawling baby?

There are no corners on the piece — the top is an eased oval with a soft bevel at the edge, at exactly the height toddlers negotiate. It is the table we point new parents toward first.

Will cups mark it?

Everyday glasses are fine on the hard-wax oil; hot mugs want a coaster. Marks that set in sand out and re-oil locally in minutes — the finish is repairable by design.

Can one person move it?
