The door that doesn't swing

Suiseki's front is a tambour — a curved sliding door that follows the oval body sideways on a carved wood pull. In the tight lane between bed and wall, nothing swings out to block your knees; the door glides and the two-tier interior is open.

Fluted, in the round

Vertical reeded carving wraps the exterior curves — cut into solid FAS-grade American black walnut, not applied molding. The top carries a subtle tray lip for the water glass and rings; the sculpted pull means no metal hardware anywhere on the piece.

Two tiers inside

Slide the door and there are two shelves of enclosed storage — books and tissues at hand height, the private kit below, all hidden the moment the tambour closes. The top itself is rated to 110 lb.

How does the sliding door work?

It is a tambour — a curved door panel that tracks around the oval body sideways. No hinge, no swing arc: in narrow bedside lanes it opens fully even when the bed is inches away.

Is the fluting solid wood?

Yes — the reeded texture is carved into solid FAS-grade walnut staves, not glued-on trim. Run a hand across it; the grain follows through every rib.

What fits inside?

Two enclosed tiers: roughly hand-height for the nightly rotation (book, tissues, charger) and a lower shelf for reserves. The door hides all of it in one slide.

What bed height does it suit?

At about 23.6" tall it lines up with mattress tops in the 22–26" range — standard-height beds. Lower platform beds pair better with our 17.7" Helios.

Does it wobble on uneven floors?

The tapered legs carry built-in levelers — a few turns square the piece on older floors, so the tambour keeps gliding true.
