The Haven Wide-Seat Floor Chair is a curved floor chair, with its seat 5.5 in (14 cm) off the floor. It's 25.2 in (64 cm) wide, 24.4 in (62 cm) deep and 15.0 in (38 cm) high. A walnut rail curves around the back and becomes the arms.
A rail after the traditional Chinese armrest
The curved back-and-arm rail follows the traditional Chinese armrest, the pingji. It stands on walnut posts.
The curved arm is joined with a traditional wedged joint. The frame also uses mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
The seat is 5.5 in (14 cm) high, measured without the foot pads. That height suits sitting cross-legged.
If you'd rather not get up from near the floor, the Alden's seat is 16.9 in (43 cm) high.
Cushion and cover
The seat cushion is polyurethane foam in a cream fabric, 30% wool / 70% polyester. The loose back cushion has a fiber-ball fill and comes off. Both covers zip.
For the fabric, dry-clean it gently and iron at medium heat, 150 °C at most. No bleach, no washing in water, no tumble-drying and no wringing.
Moving it, and the walnut
Lift the chair to move it; don't drag it. Stand it on a level floor, away from dirt, insects, damp and direct sun.
Every wooden part is solid wood: the rail and posts are solid American black walnut, and the board under the cushion is solid wood. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut in hardwax oil.
Dust the wood with a soft dry cloth, and wipe spills promptly: the oil resists water but isn't waterproof. Knots, sapwood edges and mineral streaks are natural walnut, not defects.

We make each one to order. Production takes 6 to 10 weeks, and it reaches you about 10 to 18 weeks after you order. It arrives fully assembled.
Standard shipping is free across the contiguous United States, excluding remote areas. You have 90 days after receiving your order to request a return. Custom dimensions, custom finishes and special-order modifications are not eligible for return.
