Designed around the charging cable

The middle shelf's back panel carries carved slots that prop phones and tablets upright while they charge, with a round cable port behind — cords drop through and vanish instead of coiling on the top. It is the nightstand feature half of Reddit asks for and almost nobody builds in solid wood.

Three layers of small storage

A rail-edged tray top for lamp and water; the slotted middle shelf with its pull-out extension tray (10 lb) for the midnight tea; a dovetailed drawer below on soft-close glides with an antique brass knob — 30 lb of hidden capacity.

Do the wheels make it feel unstable?

No — the casters are recessed and the stance is wide for the size, so parked it reads as a fixed nightstand. They are also removable if you never intend to roll it.
