Every sit-down is a small impact, and flat-pack chairs take that impact on screws — which is why they loosen. Aro takes it the way chairs have for centuries: mortise-and-tenon joinery, wood carrying wood. Look closely at the back rail and you can see it — the finger joint locking the curve together, in plain sight instead of hidden under a plastic cap. The frame is solid American black walnut, no veneer, no MDF, and it arrives fully assembled.

The sit

The seat is solid walnut shaped into a shallow scoop, 18" wide by 18" deep, so weight spreads instead of pressing on the sit bones. The back wraps around and flows into integrated arms at 26" high — somewhere to rest your forearms through a long dinner, not just a rail behind you.

Fit & sizing

Aro stands 21.7" wide and 30.3" tall, with a 16.1" seat height — a touch lower than the usual 18", which gives a more relaxed sit and extra knee room under a 29–30" table. If your table has a deep apron, check that a 26" arm height clears it.

Finish & care

The finish is a zero-VOC natural hard wax oil: you feel wood grain, not lacquer. Scuffs get a light sand and a wipe of oil — a spot fix, not a refinish. The walnut deepens into a warm patina with use.

Yes — the Aro's seat is carved into a shallow scoop, 18" wide by 18" deep, so your weight spreads across the surface. The wraparound back and 26" integrated arms support you through a long dinner. If you prefer a softer sit, a low seat pad works without hiding the chair.

Will it fit under my dining table?

The seat sits at 16.1" and the arms at 26". That pairs comfortably with standard 29–30" tables, but if yours has a deep apron, measure the clearance — the arms need 26" to slide under.

Does it need assembly?

No. Aro ships fully assembled, its frame joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery — unbox it and put it at the table. There are no flat-pack joints to work loose over time.

How many fit around a table?

Aro is 21.7" wide, and a comfortable place setting is about 24". That's 6 chairs around a 59" round table, or 3 down each side of a 71" rectangular top.

What happens if it gets scratched, or a joint loosens years from now?

Scratches are a spot fix: light sand, wipe of hard wax oil, done. And because the frame is solid wood, any furniture shop can re-glue a joint decades from now — that's the repair path veneer and MDF chairs don't have.
