Most round pedestal tables are veneer over MDF — fine until the edge starts peeling. Cumberland is American black walnut all the way through: sand out a scratch, refinish it in an afternoon, keep it for decades.

Solid walnut, no veneer

Cumberland is built from FAS-grade, FSC-certified American black walnut — solid boards joined with traditional mortise-and-tenon work, no veneer, no MDF. Check the tabletop edge: the grain runs straight through it, because it's the same wood top to bottom. At approx. 120 lb, it feels like it.

Sizes & seating

Two sizes: 53" seats 4 comfortably, 6 in a pinch; 59" seats 6 without elbow wars. The pedestal base means no corner legs to plan around — chairs slide in where people actually sit, and a round top always has room to squeeze in one more. Leave about 36" of walking room around the table if your floor plan allows.

The lazy Susan

Give the raised walnut tray a turn and dishes travel to each seat instead of being passed over someone's plate — built for hot pot nights and family-style dinners. And it lifts off: when the meal calls for one big spread, you get the full flat top back.

Finish & everyday life

The finish is a zero-VOC natural hard wax oil, so you feel real wood grain under your hand, not a plastic topcoat. Scratches get a light sand and a wipe of fresh oil — a local fix, never a full refinish. Over the years the walnut settles into a warm patina.

The grain runs through the tabletop edge — veneer can't do that. It's FAS-grade American black walnut from top to base, approx. 120 lb of it, and it can be sanded and refinished the way only solid wood can.

How many people does each size seat?

The 53" top seats 4 comfortably and 6 in a pinch; the 59" seats 6. With no corner legs, an extra chair slides in without anyone straddling a table leg.

What happens if the top gets scratched?

Sand the spot lightly and wipe on hard wax oil — it's a local repair, not a full refinish. That's the practical difference between solid walnut and a veneered top.

Does it come assembled?
