Three materials, each doing its job

The top is solid American black walnut with a raised tray lip; the stem is slim black steel; the base is a domed cylinder of real marble — Nero Marquina black or Carrara white. Stone for ballast, steel for slimness, walnut for warmth: we name all three because the mix is the design.

Marble is heavy in exactly the right place. The 11.8" dome keeps the center of gravity at ankle height, so a 15.7" top on a 5.5" stem holds a full wine glass with poise. Rated to 150 lb — it will take a stack of art books without complaint.

Is the marble real?

Yes — quarried stone, either Nero Marquina (black with white veining) or Carrara (white with grey). Veining varies piece to piece; no two bases match exactly, which is the point of stone.

Will it tip if bumped?

The engineering says no in the ways that matter: an 11.8" marble dome concentrates most of the table's weight at the floor. It shrugs off knee bumps that would rock a four-leg table of this size.

What fits on a 15.7-inch top?
