Hand-woven paper cord covers the seat and the back panel of the Daren, a paper cord dining chair in solid walnut. Its turned rear posts end in ball finials.
Cord on both faces of the seat
The seat is woven on both faces, top and underside. It has a slight spring when you sit down.
The back panel is woven too. It's 11.8 in (30 cm) tall and runs between two back rails. The cord is natural kraft paper, not a synthetic.
Turned posts and ball finials
The legs and posts are turned round. Ball finials cap the two rear posts. Stretchers run on all four sides.
There are open gaps beside the back panel. They make the chair easy to lift. It has no arms.
Sizes, and how we measure
The chair is 17.7 in wide, 17.3 in deep and 31.9 in tall (45 × 44 × 81 cm). The seat is 17.7 in wide and 15.7 in deep (45 × 40 cm), 17.7 in (45 cm) off the floor.
We measure by hand, so allow 0.8 to 1.2 in (2 to 3 cm) either way.
There's no cushion. If you'd rather sit on foam, the Kael has a padded seat in black synthetic leather.
Walnut under hardwax oil
Every wooden part is solid wood, and the walnut is solid American black walnut. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut, finished in hardwax oil.
The oil resists water but isn't waterproof, so wipe spills promptly. Dust the frame with a soft dry cloth. Knots and color shifts are part of the wood, not defects.
