The Helios dining table is built from 5 to 8 wide boards that each run the full length of the top.

Boards that run end to end

We glue the top from 5 to 8 wide boards, and each one runs the full length.

The glue lines between the boards are still there, so it isn't one piece. At the edge the top is 1.7 in (4.4 cm) thick, and every edge and corner is sanded round.

Legs in two places

There's no apron rail. The legs, 1.7 × 2.8 in (4.3 × 7 cm) and tapered, sweep up into the top.

Set at the ends, they let two people work side by side or facing. Set further in, they let someone sit at each end.

A walnut frame, reinforcing boards and a cross stretcher sit under the top.

Seats and the leg change

We don't give a seat count for the Helios.

We also don't describe how the legs move between the two positions. It's built with mortise-and-tenon joinery, and you'll see screws underneath too.

Sizes and room underneath

The sizes are 70.9 × 33.5 in (180 × 85 cm), 82.7 × 35.4 in (210 × 90 cm) and 90.6 × 35.4 in (230 × 90 cm). All are 29.5 in (75 cm) tall.

The underside is 27.6 in (70 cm) off the floor, with plenty of knee room. It works as a dining table, or as a desk where two people sit side by side.

Lumber, oil and care

We kiln-dry the lumber to 8 to 10% moisture. Every wooden part is solid wood, and the walnut is solid American black walnut. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut under hardwax oil.

A slight smell on unpacking is normal, so keep the room ventilated. Don't cover the top with film or glass.

The oil resists water but isn't waterproof, so wipe spills promptly. Knots, sapwood edges and mineral lines are natural, not defects.

Ordering the Helios

We make each Helios to order. Production takes 6 to 10 weeks, and it reaches you about 10 to 18 weeks after you order. It needs some assembly on arrival.

Standard shipping is free across the contiguous United States, excluding remote areas. You have 90 days after receiving your order to request a return. Custom dimensions, custom finishes and special-order modifications are not eligible for return.
