Bent with steam from solid walnut in one piece, the back of the Marlowe walnut dining chair curves over an all-wood seat. It has no arms.
One back, bent with steam
We steam-bend the back from solid walnut, in one piece. It's a single curved piece.
Where the back, the seat and the legs meet, the wood runs in rounded curves. We sand those transitions by hand.
The seat and legs
The seat is all wood, built from wide boards joined edge to edge. There's no upholstery. The legs taper from top to bottom.
Overall the chair is 17.7 in wide, 20.1 in deep and 33.9 in tall (45 × 51 × 86 cm).
Check the seat height, not the rim
The seat height is 18.1 in (46 cm). The sides of the seat rise to 19.3 in (49 cm), and that raised rim isn't the seat height.
Check 18.1 in (46 cm) against your table before you order. The Soren sits lower, at 17.1 in (43.5 cm). We don't publish a seat width for the Marlowe.
Walnut and hardwax oil
Every wooden part is solid wood, and the walnut is solid American black walnut. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut, joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery.
The finish is hardwax oil. Knots, color shifts and mineral streaks are part of black walnut, not defects. When the wood looks dry, refresh it with a hardwax-oil maintenance product.
