The Heritage walnut dining chair is all wood, with a curved back that wraps around you. It also stacks when it's not in use.
Rear legs that become the back
Each rear leg is one length of wood that runs up into the back. The back curves around you, with an open gap below it.
The legs splay slightly, and the edges are rounded all round.
A thick seat with rods inside
The seat is 1.3 in (3.2 cm) thick and slightly concave. We set solid-wood rods into it for strength, and we build it from wide boards matched by grain.
It's 16.9 in wide and 18.1 in deep (43 × 46 cm), 17.7 in (45 cm) off the floor.
Size, and how it stores
When you're not using them, the chairs stack. They also tuck under the table.
The chair is 18.1 in wide, 21.7 in deep and 32.1 in tall (46 × 55 × 81.5 cm). The depth runs from the front edge of the leg to the back of the backrest.
Worth knowing first
There's no cushion: the seat is all wood. For a seat with some give, the Haven has a woven paper cord seat.
We don't publish how many chairs stack together. We measure by hand, so small differences are possible.
Walnut, oil and joints
Every wooden part is solid wood, and the walnut is solid American black walnut. Our walnut is kiln-dried to 8 to 10% moisture and joined with mortise-and-tenon joinery.
It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut under hardwax oil. There may be a slight smell when you unpack it. Keep the room ventilated.
Walnut varies, with knots, color shifts and dark streaks. They're part of black walnut, not defects. When the wood looks dry, rub in a hardwax-oil maintenance product.
