This walnut extendable dining table keeps its one leaf inside the frame. The leaf adds 15.7 in (40 cm).

Where the leaf lives

We store the leaf inside the frame, hidden under the top. There's no separate panel to keep in a closet.

To extend, pull the end of the top out, lift the leaf out and lay it flat in the gap. The top slides on solid wood runners.

Chairs per size, and the deep one

The two smaller sizes, 39.4 to 55.1 in (100 to 140 cm) and 47.2 to 63.0 in (120 to 160 cm), take up to 6 chairs. The two larger sizes take up to 8.

Most sizes are 31.5 in (80 cm) deep. The largest, 63.0 to 78.7 in (160 to 200 cm), is 35.4 in (90 cm) deep, so measure your room for that one.

It needs some assembly on arrival, and we include simple tools. If you'd rather skip that, the Heritage Dining Table arrives fully assembled, with no apron.

Apron, legs and top

A solid wood apron, 2.8 in (70 mm) deep, frames the underside of the top. The legs are round, tapered and splayed outward.

We glue the top up from 8 to 12 wide boards and sand the corners and edges round.

Every wooden part is solid wood, and the walnut is solid American black walnut. It's Appalachian FAS-grade walnut with a hardwax oil finish.

Sun, heat and spills

Keep the table out of long, strong sunlight and about 5 ft (1.5 m) from AC vents and heaters. Steady room humidity helps.

Use a heat pad under hot dishes, and wipe water marks promptly. The oil resists water but isn't waterproof.

There may be a slight smell when you unpack it. Keep the room ventilated.
