The leaf lives in the table

Pull the two halves apart and the center leaf lifts up from inside the frame, dropping flush into place — one person, under a minute, no separate panel to fetch or store. Closed again, the seam is tight enough that a leaf of parsley is the only thing we could slide into it for the photo.

Four spans

Each size gains roughly 16" when the leaf goes in: 39" opens to 55" (4 to 6 seats), 47" to 63" (4–6), 55" to 71" (6), 63" to 79" (6 to 8). Standard 29.5" height on tapered mid-century legs, approx. 150 lb.

Solid walnut, no veneer

Top, leaf, and legs are FAS-grade, FSC-certified American black walnut, mortise-and-tenon at the frame. The leaf stores inside the table, so it patinas with the top instead of aging apart from it.

Finish & everyday life

Zero-VOC hard wax oil: matte, touchable, spot-repairable with a light sand and a wipe of oil. Water beads; walnut deepens to a warm patina.

How does the extension work?

The two halves of the top slide apart and the leaf lifts up from storage inside the frame, dropping flush into the gap. It's a one-person job — no separate leaf to carry, no alignment fuss.

Is there a visible seam when it's closed?

There are two hairlines where the top meets, tight enough that we could only slide a leaf of parsley in for the product photo. You'll feel a joint if you hunt for it; dinner guests won't.

How many people fit, closed and open?

39" seats 4 and opens to 55" for 6; 47" seats 4–6 open; 55" seats 6 open; the 63" runs 6 closed and 8 at its full 79".

Will the stored leaf change color differently?

No — it lives inside the table in the same room, same air, so the walnut ages in step. That's a real advantage over leaves stored in a closet for years.
